New Delhi: As the world commemorates World Environment Day 2025, Merino Industries Ltd., a global leader in surfacing solutions and agro-based industries, has reaffirmed its deep-rooted commitment to environmental stewardship through its flagship Nirmal Program, which integrates sustainable innovation across all facets of its operations.
Rooted in a reverence for the five elements of nature—Bhūmih (Earth), Apah (Water), Agnih (Fire), Vayu (Air), and Khang (Space)—Merino’s sustainability strategy blends philosophy with action. At the heart of its efforts lies a belief that growth and green goals must go hand in hand.
Speaking on the occasion, Mr. Manoj Lohia, Director at Merino Industries, said, “Sustainability, for us, is not merely a responsibility. Instead, it’s a way of life. With every tree planted, every litre of water saved, every emission avoided – we’re investing in a future that’s abundant and inclusive. Through the Nirmal Program, we’ve created a culture that’s environment-first.”
Measurable Impact, Tangible Results Merino’s environment-first approach has yielded substantial impact:
Over 75% of the company’s energy now comes from renewable sources, primarily solar and biomass, drastically reducing reliance on fossil fuels.
In FY 2024 alone, the company cut more than 75,000 metric tons of CO₂ equivalent in greenhouse gas emissions.
Water conservation follows the 5R principle—Reduce, Reuse, Recycle, Replenish, and Restore—resulting in 82,500 litres of water being recycled annually.
On the soil sustainability front, 215 metric tons of organic bio-manure and compost were produced using paddy straw, factory byproducts, and bamboo farm waste, rejuvenating farmlands and factory ecosystems alike.
Nature’s Positive Response
Perhaps most symbolic of Merino’s environmental commitment is the thriving biodiversity at its manufacturing campuses in Hapur and Halol. What began as afforestation has evolved into vibrant habitats where native bird species flourish, underlining the harmony between industry and ecology.
Beyond Green: The Triple Bottom Line
Merino’s sustainability model extends beyond environmental benchmarks. Its Triple Bottom Line philosophy—Planet, People, and Profit—ensures that economic growth is balanced with ecological integrity and social empowerment. From supporting agroforestry for farmer livelihoods to developing low-emission, formaldehyde-reduced boards, Merino is shaping a circular economy rooted in responsibility.
As the company marks this year’s World Environment Day, it renews its pledge to produce responsibly, consume mindfully, and regenerate the resources it depends on—offering a blueprint for how Indian industry can lead the global sustainability agenda.
