“we deepen this momentum, we remain committed to working with partners to build resilient communities, protect natural resources, and shape a more sustainable future for India”: Jitendra Mahajan, Chief Supply and Sustainability Officer.
Mumbai: Diageo India has significantly advanced its sustainability agenda, making major strides toward a low-carbon future as part of its UN Sustainable Development Goals (SDG) commitments.
The company announced substantial progress across its operations, supply chain, and community-led climate initiatives, positioning itself well ahead of its 2030 targets.
In a landmark achievement, Diageo India has recorded a 93% reduction in greenhouse gas emissions from operations since 2020. Following the complete phase-out of coal in 2022, all distilleries are now powered by biomass-fuelled boilers, with 99% of the company’s energy sourced from renewables. Backed by 2.7 MW of in-house solar power, the company says it has already surpassed its renewable energy goals for the decade.
Diageo India has also achieved zero waste-to-landfill, while ensuring 99% of its packaging material is recyclable, and expanding the use of recycled content, 59% from recovered materials and 33% food-grade recycled PET across all PET bottles.
Jitendra Mahajan, Chief Supply and Sustainability Officer, Diageo India, said, “Our Spirit of Progress ESG agenda reflects the business we are deliberately building- one that grows responsibly, leads with integrity, and creates long-term value. From strengthening water security and accelerating our transition to renewable energy, to advancing inclusion and promoting responsible consumption, our actions demonstrate that a focus on ESG powers performance”.
“As we deepen this momentum, we remain committed to working with partners to build resilient communities, protect natural resources, and shape a more sustainable future for India” he added.
Beyond its operations, the company is ramping up climate action through community programmes. Under its ‘Signature Packaged Drinking Water’ brand, Diageo India is supporting mangrove regeneration in Puri, Odisha, with 31,500 seedlings planted.
The company has planted over 1 lakh trees nationwide to offset residual emissions, in addition to 2 lakh saplings grown in Alwar under the Trees Outside Forest in Rajasthan (TOFR) initiative.
In its supply chain, Diageo India continues to collaborate closely with partners to target Scope 3 emissions. Through training and capacity building in sustainable agriculture, the company has trained 430 farmers, 80% of them smallholders, in regenerative farming, covering more than 2,000 acres across two cropping seasons.

The company said its sustainability agenda aims to balance value creation with long-term value preservation. Water stewardship remains a key focus area, particularly in water-stressed regions. Since 2020, Diageo India has achieved significant improvements in operational efficiency, cutting water use by 54% in distillation and 35% in packaging.
Alongside operational gains, the company continues to expand its community interventions. In FY25, it replenished 182,000 cubic metres of water, bringing the cumulative total since 2020 to 1.1 million cubic metres.
These initiatives have been implemented across regions such as Nanded and Nashik in Maharashtra, Hardoi in Uttar Pradesh, and Alwar in Rajasthan.
Through its WASH (Water, Sanitation and Hygiene) programmes, Diageo India also continues to provide access to safe drinking water and sanitation facilities in Maharashtra, Uttar Pradesh, Meghalaya, Odisha, and Rajasthan.
The company’s Alwar distillery has maintained its certification from the Alliance for Water Stewardship (AWS), reinforcing its commitment to global standards of responsible water management.
“With accelerated action on energy transition, circular economy solutions, and climate-resilient agriculture, Diageo India sais,”It is firmly on track to achieve its 2030 net-zero goals, while contributing to wider community and environmental well-being”.
