New Delhi: Delhi Minister of Irrigation and Flood Control Parvesh Verma said that 1,300 tonnes of refuse had been extracted from the Yamuna in the last ten days.
The Minister also conducted a boat inspection of Yamuna from Boat Club to Signature Bridge and ITO Chhath Ghaton Wednesday and said, “BJP’s double engine government is working on ground with concrete roadmap and Action Plan for cleaning Yamuna ji”.
Slamming the AAP government, he said, “There has been no concrete work on cleaning Yamuna in the last 10 years, but the dirt doubled. AAP government just spread lies and corruption in the name of Yamuna cleaning”.
“But now, with the inspiration of Prime Minister Yamuna ji has pledged to make Sabarmati Riverfront clean and beautiful” he said
The Minister informed that Prime Minister himself is continuously monitoring this cleanliness campaign.
Speaking about the steps that need to be taken for Yamuna cleaning, the Minister said all drains in Delhi will be connected to STP and their capacity will be increased. CTP will be installed in industrial areas to properly repair chemical waste.
“Also, ITO gates are being repaired, security and increased the height of walls to tackle flood problems during rains. I assure Delhi people that there will be no more flood situations in Delhi” he added.
The Minister appealed to all Delhi residents to avoid putting garbage in Yamuna and cooperate in this holy campaign.
“Let’s contribute together in making Maa Yamuna ji clean” he added.
The Jal Shakti Ministry has formed a ‘Yamuna Master Plan’ to tackle the pollution crisis in the river in Delhi, and it will soon be submitted to Prime Minister Narendra Modi for his approval.
Under Namami Gange Programme, the government has sanctioned 23 projects costing Rs.4290 crore for creating / rehabilitation of 1840 MLD STP capacity in Yamuna basin.
These 23 projects are spread in Himachal Pradesh (1 project), Haryana (2 projects), Delhi (12 projects) and Uttar Pradesh (8 projects).
Upto October 2021, a total expenditure of Rs over 6800 crore has been made in the 23 projects for river Yamuna.
The government launched the Namami Gange initiative in June 2014 to accomplish its twin objective of abatement of pollution, conservation and rejuvenation of river Ganga and its tributaries. Yamuna is also included in Namami Gange Programme.
