New Delhi: Union Ministry of Environment, Forest and Climate Change (MOEFCC) , NITI Aayog and United Nations on Monday invited suggestions across the world for solutions to drive climate friendly behaviour.
The decision was taken after the Prime Minister Narendra Modi has formally launched Lifestyle for the Environment (LiFE) Movement’, a global call to solve the challenge faced by the planet by changing behaviors among individuals, communities and organisations on the World Environment day.
Behaviour-change solutions aimed at individuals, households and communities to drive climate-friendly behaviours in sectors, includes Water, Transport, Food
Electricity, Recycle and Reuse. The applications for ideas have opened on 5 June and will be closed on 31 December 2022.
“Individuals, universities, think tanks, non-profits and others worldwide are invited to submit measurable and scalable behavior change solutions that can drive climate-friendly behaviors among individuals, communities and organisations” said the official statement.
Authors of the accepted ideas will be invited to present their work during an international conference in India.
The participants are strongly encouraged to submit empirically informed and measurable ideas that can offer implementable solutions while having the potential to be published in reputed academic journals.
Authors of the top 5 ideas will each be awarded with UN Global LiFE Ambassador award at COP 27 by UNFCC.
The authors will also grant of USD 25,000 each for piloting and testing in select districts and get a chance for the presentation to Prime Minister in LiFE Global Conference in India.
“Top 100 ideas will additionally be collated into a “Behavior Change for Climate Action” repository and disseminated globally” said the statement.
While delivering the keynote address, the PM stressed that the need of the hour to solve the challenge faced by our planet using human-centric, collective efforts and robust action that further sustainable development.
The Prime Minister proposed this global initiative at COP-26 last year at Glasgow.
He added that the vision of LiFE is to live a lifestyle that is in tune with our planet and does not harm it. And those who live such a lifestyle are called “Pro-Planet People”.
“Mission LiFE borrows from the past, operates in the present and focuses on the future. Reduce, Reuse and Recycle are the concepts woven into our life. The Circular Economy has been an integral part of our culture and lifestyle” he said.
