Kaziranga: In a significant boost to conservation efforts at the iconic Kaziranga National Park & Tiger Reserve, the REC Foundation—the CSR arm of REC Limited, a Maharatna Central Public Sector Enterprise under the Ministry of Power has pledged a ₹5.43 crore grant to enhance infrastructure at anti-poaching camps across the park.
The funding will support the installation of solar power plants and Reverse Osmosis (RO) drinking-water systems, aiming to provide clean energy and safe drinking water to forest personnel stationed at the camps.
The initiative is expected to significantly reduce the park’s dependence on diesel generators and single-use plastic water bottles, in turn lowering its overall carbon footprint.
A Memorandum of Agreement (MoA) was signed between REC Foundation and the Kaziranga Tiger Conservation Foundation (KTCF) to formalize the partnership.
The agreement was inked by Ms. Sonali Ghosh, IFS, Field Director of Kaziranga National Park & Tiger Reserve and Chairperson of KTCF, and Shri Pradeep Fellows, Executive Director of REC Foundation. Shri Jitendra Srivastava, Chairman & Managing Director of REC Limited, was also present at the signing ceremony.
“This support will go a long way in improving the living and working conditions of our frontline staff, who are the first line of defense in protecting the park’s unique biodiversity,” said Ms. Ghosh. “By introducing solar power and sustainable water systems, we are making our conservation infrastructure more resilient and eco-friendly.”
Kaziranga, a UNESCO World Heritage Site, is globally renowned for its population of the endangered one-horned rhinoceros, as well as tigers, elephants, and a wide range of flora and fauna. The park’s anti-poaching camps play a vital role in wildlife protection and monitoring efforts.
The initiative aligns with REC Foundation’s commitment to supporting sustainable development and environmental stewardship through its Corporate Social Responsibility programs.
