New Delhi: The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has forecast severe heatwave conditions over Odisha, Gangetic West Bengal during Tamil Nadu, and Coastal Andhra Pradesh for the next three days (Sunday).
Heat Wave conditions are likely to hit Jharkhand, north Konkan, Saurashtra, Madhya Maharashtra, Coastal Andhra Pradesh, Telangana, Tamil Nadu and Puducherry.
IMD has forecast a rise in maximum temperatures by 2 to 3 degrees Celsius over East and parts of south peninsular India during the next three days.
IMD Director Manorama Mohanty said, “43.2 degrees Celsius has been recorded in Talcher…In 18 cities, more than 41 degrees Celsius has been recorded. In Bhubaneswar, the record stands at 41.7 degrees Celsius; in Cuttack, 41.5 degrees Celsius is recorded.”
She added, “In the Coastal station, humidity varies from 40% to 80%. For the coming 5 days, we have issued a heat wave condition warning.”
In a statement, IMD stated, “A fresh Western Disturbance as a cyclonic circulation lies over Iran and neighbourhood in middle and upper tropospheric levels which is likely to affect Northwest India from 18th April.”
Thus, under the influence of prevailing weather systems, light to moderate rainfall or snowfall accompanied by thunderstorm lightning and gusty winds will affect the states of Jammu and Kashmir and Himachal Pradesh until April 21 and Uttarakhand until April 19.
Light to moderate rainfall is likely over Jammu, Kashmir, Ladakh, Gilgit, Baltistan, Muzaffarabad, Himachal Pradesh, and Uttarakhand.
IMD has also forecast isolated to scattered rainfall over Punjab, Haryana, Chandigarh, and Delhi during the next three days.
