Water conservation is global issue needs to address immediately: President Murmu

New Delhi: Minister of Jal Shakti, Gajendra Singh Shekhawat, has ensured of 100 per cent water availability across the country by 2024, and urged the people to join the movement and make it “Jan Aandolan” for a water secure India.

 Addressing the 7th India Water Week in Greater Noida, the Minister said that the issue of water conservation, and its management is a holistic and global effort, and all the stakeholders must join hands to address the issue of water conservation.

“We need to come together to address the problems, related to water. All stakeholders must work collaboratively to ensure water security and sustainable development for all” he added.

The Minister said, India Water Week is a unique effort by India to bring together all the stakeholders working in the water sector across the globe.

As per the Ministry of Jal Shakti, the platform will be used to produce ideas and opinions from global-level decisions makers, politicians, researchers, and entrepreneurs.

The theme of this year’s Water Week is “Water Security for Sustainable Development and Equity”. The five-day-long events will bring together experts, planners stakeholders from across the globe.

The event was inaugurated by the President Droupadi Murmu on Tuesday, and said, the issue of water is multifaceted and complex, for which efforts should be made by all stakeholders around the world to address the issue immediately .

The President further said “water is a major resource for agriculture as well and providing clean drinking water to the growing population will be a big challenge in the coming years.

She urged people to be aware of its misuse and make others aware about water conservation.

She appealed to the common people, farmers, industrialists and especially children to make water conservation a part of their ethics, adding that the only in this manner, we will be able to gift a better and safer tomorrow to the coming generations.

“The issue of water is relevant not just for India but for the entire world and I am happy to note that Denmark, Finland, Germany, Israel and the European Union are participating in the 7th India Water Week” she said.

The President expressed confidence that all will benefit from the exchange of ideas and technologies on this forum.

The event will discourse on the issues of sustainability of water resources development and management in the line with sustainable development goals.

The event will host conferences with seminars, panel discussions, side events, exhibitions and cultural programs. Denmark, Singapore and Finland will be the partner country for this event.

A large group of international and national persons of eminence will be sharing their experiences in the field of water management. In addition to this, an exhibition will be running parallel supporting the theme and showcasing the technologies, latest development and solutions available for the areas of water management for sustainable development.
