Fifth assembly of International Solar Alliance set to begin in Delhi

New Delhi: The 5th Assembly of International Solar Alliance will kick start in New Delhi today (Monday) under India’s presidentship.

Ministers, missions and delegates from 109 Member and Signatory Countries are set to participate in this four-day meeting, and will share their experiences towards a low-carbon economy through the promotion of solar energy.

The Assembly will be presided over by R.K. Singh, Union Minister for Power, New and Renewable Energy.

The Assembly is the apex decision-making body of International Solar Alliance (ISA) and makes decisions concerning the implementation of the ISA’s Framework Agreement.
It meets annually at the Ministerial level at the ISA’s seat.

Director General of International Solar Alliance, Dr Ajay Mathur, outlined the priorities and focus areas of the forthcoming global meet.

He said one of the key focus areas of the meeting is Streamlining the Solar Sector investments in the countries where investments are not flowing at present.

“The assembly will also deliberate on creating a Risk Mitigation Facility for solar projects with Payment Guarantee Mechanism” he said.

According to an official statement, the Fifth Assembly of the ISA will deliberate on the key initiatives of ISA on three critical issues energy access, energy security, and energy transition.

World leaders from ISA Member Countries will also discuss the strategic plan of the ISA in Programmatic Support for LDC and SIDS Member Countries, Capacity Building support to all developing Member Countries, and Analytics & Advocacy support to all Member Countries.
The 5th Assembly is expected to lead to a greater consensus among countries for promotion of solar power.

“Increased international cooperation will be the backbone of energy transition, propelling investment and creating millions of new green jobs in this crucial decade of climate action” it said.

Talking about assembly, Union Power MinisterR.K Singh earliers said that India’s pace of Energy Transition is the fastest in the world and the International Solar Alliance is absolutely essential for our planet’s goal of Energy Transition.

“Solar being the cheapest source of energy, solar and mini grids are the answer to the universal access of energy in the world” he said.
