Chennai: In a major boost to India’s emerging Advanced Air Mobility (AAM) ecosystem, Ubifly Technologies, operating as The ePlane Company, has announced a strategic partnership with Germany-based HENSOLDT Avionics GmbH to integrate advanced avionics into its flagship eVTOL aircraft, the e200X.
The collaboration marks a critical milestone in the e200X’s transition from a subscale demonstrator to a full-scale prototype, strengthening its certification pathway and operational readiness for dense urban environments.
At the heart of the partnership is the integration of HENSOLDT’s next-generation avionics suite, described by the company as a “digital nervous system” for the aircraft.
The system is designed to enhance safety, situational awareness and operational efficiency, key requirements for urban air mobility operations.
In addition, the integration of the EB1 Multipurpose Airborne Computer will provide enhanced onboard processing capability, enabling mission-critical applications and preparing the platform for future autonomous operations.
The avionics integration supports the e200X certification programme under India’s Directorate General of Civil Aviation (DGCA). The development follows the internal design freeze of the aircraft’s avionics architecture, marking a significant step toward regulatory approval.
Prof. Satya Chakravarthy, Founder and Technical Lead of The ePlane Company, said the partnership goes beyond procurement.
“Building a certifiable eVTOL requires the flawless integration of highly advanced subsystems into a single, harmonious platform. By partnering with HENSOLDT, we aren’t just buying components; we are integrating a legacy of aviation safety into the DNA of the e200X. This avionics suite provides the comprehensive situational awareness required to operate safely in dense urban environments”.
Michael Groeninger, Managing Director of HENSOLDT Avionics GmbH, highlighted the strategic importance of the collaboration. “We are proud to support ePlane in their mission to alleviate urban congestion. Our avionics are designed for the most demanding missions, and the operational profile of an eVTOL in India is the ultimate proving ground. Together, we are defining the standards for situational awareness in the Advanced Air Mobility sector.”
The partnership represents a convergence of German aerospace engineering precision and Indian innovation in electric aviation. Engineers from both companies are working closely to ensure seamless system integration tailored to the e200X’s unique flight profile and operational requirements.
As India pushes to develop sustainable, electric air mobility solutions to tackle urban congestion, the Ubifly–HENSOLDT collaboration signals growing international confidence in the country’s eVTOL ambitions.
With the full-scale prototype development underway, the e200X is positioning itself as a frontrunner in India’s urban air mobility landscape, bringing the vision of rooftop-to-rooftop electric air taxis closer to reality.
