NEW Delhi: The Eighth Session of the International Solar Alliance (ISA) Assembly, scheduled from 27–30 October 2025 at Bharat Mandapam in New Delhi.
Bringing together ministers, policymakers, and experts from across 124 Member and Signatory Countries, the Assembly will reinforce the shared vision of “One Sun, One World, One Grid”, uniting the world under a single commitment to accelerate solar energy deployment.
Launched jointly by India and France at COP21 in Paris, ISA is today the largest treaty-based intergovernmental organization from the Global South, driving solar transformation across continents.
This year’s Assembly comes just weeks ahead of COP30 in Brazil, setting the stage for collective global action to scale up solar energy, unlock catalytic finance, foster innovation, and enable an inclusive clean energy transition.
At the curtain raiser event, Pralhad Joshi, Minister of New and Renewable Energy and President of the ISA Assembly, highlighted India’s rapid strides in the renewable energy sector.
“Owing to its clear vision and consistent policies, India achieved its renewable energy targets five years ahead of schedule, crossing the 50% mark in overall installed electricity capacity from non-fossil sources,” he said.
“With approximately 125 GW of solar capacity, India is now the world’s third-largest solar producer. Our progress is about people—bringing light to rural homes, powering health centres, and empowering farmers through decentralised solar initiatives.”
He noted that through the PM Surya Ghar Muft Bijli Yojana, more than 20 lakh households are already benefiting from solar power, while the PM-KUSUM scheme continues to transform India’s agricultural landscape with initiatives targeting 10 GW of small solar plants, 1.4 million off-grid pumps, and 3.5 million solarised grid-connected pumps.
Santosh Kumar Sarangi, Secretary, Ministry of New and Renewable Energy, underscored India’s emergence as a global renewable energy powerhouse.
“We are the third largest in solar, fourth in wind, and third overall in renewable energy installations worldwide. India is also the second-largest manufacturer of solar modules after China,” he said.
“Our efforts extend beyond solar to green hydrogen, with a target of producing 5 million tonnes by 2031, a cornerstone for our future energy security.”
He also emphasized ISA’s growing role in experience sharing, cross-learning, and technology transfer, particularly in Africa and Small Island Developing States (SIDS), noting India’s readiness to partner globally through both financial and technical assistance.
Mr. Ashish Khanna, Director General of ISA, described the current decade as a defining moment for the Global South. “It took oil 25 years to reach 1,000 GW of capacity renewables doubled that in just two years. For the first time, renewable generation has surpassed fossil generation,” he said.
“ISA is now a platform of aggregation driving collective action from commitments to concrete projects, from dialogue to delivery. The coming decade must turn ambition into measurable impact.”
He reaffirmed ISA’s focus on innovation through aggregation, digitalisation, standards harmonisation, and research support, and announced plans to develop India as the “Silicon Valley for Solar” via the Global Capability Centre (GCC), linked to global STAR-C hubs for training and digital solutions.
The Assembly will also witness the release of ISA’s flagship reports Ease of Doing Solar 2025 and Solar Trends 2025, providing insights into global progress and pathways for scaling solar deployment.
Ahead of the Assembly, ISA conducted Regional Committee Meetings across Brussels, Colombo, Santiago, and Accra, engaging over 100 countries. These consultations have helped shape the upcoming deliberations, aligning regional priorities on finance, innovation, and energy access with ISA’s global vision.
As the world prepares to meet under the New Delhi sun, the ISA Assembly 2025 stands as a beacon of cooperation and action—charting a united path toward a solar-powered, sustainable, and equitable future.
