New Delhi Minister of State for Earth Sciences, Dr. Jitendra Singh has urged for the inclusion of advanced technology options and ‘waste to wealth’ methodologies under the ongoing Swachhta Campaign 5.0.
Speaking at an event today, Dr. Singh emphasized that citizen awareness is crucial to transform cleanliness into a daily habit and a societal norm. Highlighting innovative initiatives, he referred to an AIIMS project where a mobile van collects waste from laboratories, converts it into inert material, and recycles it using modern technology.
Similarly, he cited the Kumbh Mela waste management model, where treated wastewater was repurposed for irrigation — demonstrating how Swachhta initiatives can promote self-reliance through technology.
The Minister underlined the growing importance of e-waste reprocessing and recycling in generating wealth from waste through diverse scientific methodologies. “Adopting Swachhta Campaign initiatives 5.0 is bringing about a metamorphosis — ensuring a cleaner, greener environment while inspiring citizens to follow a healthy and efficient lifestyle,” he said.
Dr. Singh also drew attention to innovative practices like recycling of waste cooking oil, which not only produces ethanol — a valuable by-product — but also prevents harmful reuse that could pose health risks. He asserted that such ‘self-reliant’ initiatives strengthen India’s domestic capabilities, reducing dependence on imports and promoting indigenous technologies.
Reinforcing the government’s commitment, Secretary, Department of Administrative Reforms and Public Grievances (DARPG), V. Srinivas, stated that building upon past achievements, the DARPG is dedicated to ensuring the successful and impactful implementation of Special Campaign 5.0. The campaign aims to enhance cleanliness, efficiency, transparency, and service delivery across all government offices.
The Government of India’s Special Campaign 5.0, being observed from October 2 to October 31, 2025, focuses on Swachhata (cleanliness) and reducing pendency in government ministries and departments, aligning with the vision of a cleaner, more efficient, and self-reliant India.
