New Delhi: Madhav National Park became the country’s 58th tiger reserve after the Ministry of Environment, Forest and Climate Change notified it on Saturday.
This is MP’s 9th Tiger Reserve in the Shivpuri district of Madhya Pradesh, with a total area of 354.85 sq km. Union Minister for Environmental Forest and Climate Change, Bhupender Yadav hailed the decision saying, “India continues to make great strides in environmental protection and wildlife conservation”.
In a tweet Bhupender Yadav, “58th roar and counting! With historic emphasis laid on restoring the ecological diversity on planet Earth by PM Shri @narendramodi ji, India continues to make great strides in environmental protection and wildlife conservation”.
“Thrilled to announce that the country has added the 58th Tiger Reserve to its tally with the latest entrant being Madhya Pradesh’s Madhav Tiger Reserve. This is MP’s 9th Tiger Reserve” he wrote.
Congratulating “wildlife lovers and conservationists” he said, “The development is a testament to the relentless efforts of our forest officials who are selflessly working towards the cause”.
The park is situated near Shivpuri town and is a part of the upper Vindhyan hills. It got the status of a National Park in 1958.
The Park is gifted with a diverse eco-systems, comprising of lakes, forests and grasslands. The forest is home to antelopes like Nilgai, Chinkara and Chowsinga and Deer including Chital, Sambar and Barking Deer.
Animals like the Leopard, Wolf, Jackal, Fox, Wild Dog, Wild Pig, Porcupine, Python etc are also sighted in the park. The latest addition to the list is Ratapani Tiger Reserve in Madhya Pradesh, which was declared the 57th Tiger Reserve in India in 2024.
