NGT to host International conference on future of environment and climate dynamics in Delhi

New Delhi: The National Green Tribunal (NGT) will organise a two-day international conference on “The Future of Environment and Climate Dynamics” on September 19-20 , at Vigyan Bhawan, New Delhi, bringing together judges, environmental experts, policymakers and senior officials from India and across the world to deliberate on pressing environmental and climate challenges.

The conference will be inaugurated by Prime Minister Narendra Modi, in the presence of Chief Justice of India Justice Surya Kant, Union Environment, Forest and Climate Change Minister Bhupender Yadav, Attorney General for India R. Venkataramani, and NGT Chairperson Justice Prakash Shrivastava.

The conference will provide a global platform for dialogue, deliberation and exchange of best practices on environmental protection, climate action and environmental justice. It will also seek to identify gaps in policy formulation and enforcement and explore ways to strengthen institutional cooperation and environmental awareness.
According to the NGT, the conference will provide an interdisciplinary and inter-jurisdictional platform to examine emerging environmental challenges and develop a forward-looking roadmap for a sustainable future.

Judges from different countries, Supreme Court and High Court judges, District Court judges, environmental experts, secretaries of various ministries, senior government officials and representatives of State Judicial Academies, State Legal Services Authorities, SEACs, SEIAAs, State Wetland Authorities, NALSA, SALSAs and other stakeholders are expected to participate.

The two-day event will feature four technical sessions focusing on critical environmental issues, facilitating discussions on policy, implementation, environmental governance and climate-related challenges.

The valedictory session on September 20 will be attended by President Droupadi Murmu as the Chief Guest. Union Minister for Housing and Urban Affairs and Power Manohar Lal, Supreme Court Judge Justice P. S. Narasimha, NGT Chairperson Justice Prakash Shrivastava, and Solicitor General of India Tushar Mehta will also be present.

The participation of the President in the concluding session is expected to underline the significance accorded to environmental protection, climate action and environmental justice at the highest institutional level.

The conference is expected to strengthen cooperation among judicial institutions, governments, experts and other stakeholders and contribute towards shaping more effective responses to the environmental and climate challenges of the future.
