New Delhi: The Commission for Air Quality Management in National Capital Region and Adjoining Areas has directed expeditious commissioning of gas infrastructure in the entire NCR well before the next winter season.

The direction was issued considering the compelling necessity to fight air pollution arising out of industrial activities and vehicles.

The Commission on Friday held a review meeting with the eleven City Gas Distributers of NCR and the Ministry of Petroleum and Natural Gas to take stock of the status of the commissioning of gas infrastructure in the NCR.

Ministry of Environment, Forest and Climate Change in a statement said that the NCR has a total of 240 Industrial Areas out of which gas connectivity and infrastructure has been achieved in 179 industrial areas.

In NCR there are 963 CNG Stations; 22,24,055 domestic PNG connections; 5,185 commercial PNG connections; and 5,361 Industrial Connections.

The Commission added that switching over industries in NCR to approved clean fuels including PNG is a priority for it.

The Commission has already directed the NCR State Governments to phase out coal and completely avoid the use of coal with effect from the 1st of January next year except for Thermal Power Plants.
