Ghaziabad Nagar Nigam and IPCA launch ‘Gazab Street’ to promote plastic recycling

New Delhi: In a bid to promote the recycling of plastic waste and Plastic Tourism Ghaziabad Nagar Nigam and Delhi-based NGO Indian Pollution Control Association (IPCA) have unveiled “Gazab Street” in Ghaziabad Uttar Pradesh.

This unique street has been developed using recycled plastic waste with the support of the Indian Pollution Control Association, (IPCA) a Delhi-based NGO, and other brand partners such as Bisleri, Parle Agro, Radisson Blu Hotel, Haldiram’s and SBI Cards, and Payment Services Limited.

The street was inaugurated by Ghaziabad Mayor Asha Sharma in the presence of Amrit Abhijat, Principal Secretary, Urban Development Department, Uttar Pradesh, Mahender Singh Tawar, Commissioner, Ghaziabad Nagar Nigam, and Ashish Jain, Founder-Director, Indian Pollution Control Association.

Speaking during the launch of Gazab Street, Mahender Singh Tawar, said “Such types of projects are the need of the hour and more such streets should be developed to promote recycling of plastic waste. This will motivate people to adopt waste recycling and reusing”.

Ashish Jain, Founder-Director of IPCA said “IPCA is an avid promoter of plastic recycling and partnering in this project is the right step towards promoting it to mass through tourism. We hope to see more such projects to be implemented on the ground in the near future”.

This 250-meter-long street is developed under the CSR initiative of the supporting partners in an area that was once covered with filth and remained abandoned & unutilized by anyone until now.

Ghaziabad Nagar Nigam decided to beautify the street by installing panels made from recycled plastic waste and equipping those panels with vertical gardens designed by reusing plastic bottles.

Each vertical garden is allocated to each supporting brand partner. The road in conjunction with the panel’s wall was also repaired to fill the holes in it.

The other wall alongside the road is having murals. Some of the slabs to cover the drain passing through the street are also made from recycled plastic waste.

Furthermore, Gazab Street is equipped with benches to sit made from recycled plastic waste.

Commissioner, Ghaziabad Nagar Nigam, and the Indian Pollution Control Association conceived the idea of Plastic Tourism in the year 2020 in order to project and identify Ghaziabad as a city that is an avid promoter of recycling.
