India, Nordic nations launch Green Technology and Innovation Strategic Partnership

Norway:- India and the Nordic countries have decided to elevate their ties into a Green Technology and Innovation Strategic Partnership, aimed at combining Nordic expertise with India’s scale and talent to build sustainable and trusted global solutions.

Addressing the third India-Nordic Summit, Prime Minister Modi said the partnership would bring together Iceland’s expertise in geothermal energy and fisheries, Norway’s strengths in the blue economy and Arctic cooperation, and the Nordic countries’ capabilities in maritime and sustainability sectors with India’s vast market and growth potential.

He said the unique strategic partnership would also integrate Sweden’s advanced manufacturing and defence capabilities, Finland’s telecom and digital technologies, and Denmark’s cyber security and health-tech expertise with India’s talent pool to develop trusted solutions for the world.

Prime Minister Modi said research and innovation ties remain an important pillar of India-Nordic cooperation. He said both sides would work to strengthen linkages among universities, laboratories and start-up ecosystems, deepen cooperation in Arctic and polar research, and create new opportunities for skill development and talent mobility.

The Prime Minister expressed happiness at participating in the third India-Nordic Summit and thanked the Prime Minister of Norway for hosting the meeting. He said India and the Nordic countries are natural partners because of their shared commitment to democracy, rule of law and multilateralism, as well as common priorities in technology and sustainability.

Highlighting growing economic engagement, Mr Modi said bilateral trade between India and the Nordic countries has increased nearly fourfold over the last decade.

He added that investments from Nordic countries into India have grown by nearly 200 per cent during the same period, contributing to India’s growth while also generating thousands of jobs in Nordic economies.

Referring to recent economic initiatives, the Prime Minister said India implemented the Trade and Economic Partnership Agreement with Norway, Iceland and other EFTA countries from October 2025.

He also noted that India recently concluded the India-European Union Free Trade Agreement, involving Denmark, Finland and Sweden, which he said would usher in a new golden era in India-Nordic relations.

Prime Minister Modi said India and the Nordic countries also exchanged views on global issues and reaffirmed support for a rules-based global order. He said both sides support efforts for early peace and resolution of conflicts, including in Ukraine and West Asia.

He also stressed that reform of multilateral institutions is both necessary and urgent, and asserted that India and the Nordic countries share a united stand against terrorism with “no compromise and no double standards.”

Referring to the word “Sambandh”, Prime Minister Modi said it signifies connection, relations and bonds in both Hindi and several Nordic languages, reflecting the closeness of ideas and values shared by India and the Nordic countries.
