PM Modi to attend programme on  ‘Save Soil Movement’ tomorrow

New Delhi: On the occasion of World Environment Day, Prime Minister Narendra Modi will attend a programme on the “Save Soil Movement” at Vigyan Bhawan in New Delhi on Sunday.

He will also address the gathering during the programme.

‘Save Soil Movement’ is a global movement to increase awareness about deteriorating soil health and bring about a conscious response to improve it.

To demonstrate the support of over 3.5 billion people, the movement was started by Sadhguru Jaggi, founder of Isha Foundation in March 2022, who embarked on a 100-day motorcycle journey passing through 27 countries and 5th June marks the 75th day of the 100-day journey.

“Prime Minister’s participation in the programme will be reflective of the shared concerns and commitment towards improving the health of the soil in India,” said the official statement.

Save Soil – a Global Movement to invoke a conscious approach to soil and planet in all. One of the main objectives of the movement is to show governments across the world that their citizens want policies that revitalize ecology and soil.

Isha Outreach partnered with the Save Soil movement to facilitate its execution in India.

Already, thousands of eminent figures, including scientists, celebrities, policy experts, and even heads of states are coming together with this common goal to restore soil health and rekindle our bond with Mother Earth.

The journey was started in London and ended in the Cauvery basin in southern India where the Cauvery Calling project, initiated by Sadhguru, has so far enabled 125,000 farmers to plant 62 million trees to revive soil and help replenish the depleting waters of river Cauvery.

Established in 1994, the United Nations Convention to Combat Desertification (UNCCD) is the sole legally binding international agreement linking environment and development to sustainable land management.

UNCCD is a key partner of the Save Soil movement, collaborating in multiple aspects, including scientific knowledge, communications, and outreach.

To raise the awareness among the masses Sadhguru has initiated large-scale global initiatives, including the UNCCD accredited Isha Foundation, with 11 million volunteers in 300 centers worldwide.

In 2017, Sadhguru also launched Rally for Rivers, a campaign to raise awareness about the dire state of India’s rivers, which was supported by 162 million people, making it the largest ever ecological initiative of its kind. Rally for Rivers was featured in UNEP’s Compendium of Nature-based Solutions at the 2019 UN Climate Action Summit in New York.
