Prime Minister Narendra Modi has called upon citizens to reinforce their dedication to environmental conservation and acknowledged the valuable contributions of those working at the grassroots level to build an environment greener and better.
Sharing his thoughts on the occasion of World Environment Day, the Prime Minister posted on X:
“This #WorldEnvironmentDay, let’s deepen our efforts towards protecting our planet and overcoming the challenges we face. I also compliment all those working at the grassroots to make our environment greener and better.”
In another post on X, the Prime Minister noted that India has seen an increase in forest cover over the past decade. “It would make you all very happy that in the last decade, India has undertaken numerous collective efforts which have led to increased forest cover across the nation. This is great for our quest towards sustainable development,” he said.
To mark the day Prime Minister Modi on Wednesday planted a sapling at Mahavir Jayanti Park in the national capital, as part of the second phase of the ‘Ek Ped Maa Ke Naam’ initiative.
Prime Minister Narendra Modi will launch the Centre’s Aravalli Green Wall project, on June 5 to mark World Environment Day, to combat desertification and restore degraded land across four states.
Delhi Chief Minister Rekha Gupta will join the PM for planting a tree in Delhi’s ridge area, the sources said. The Chief Ministers of Haryana, Rajasthan and Gujarat will also plant trees in their respective states, sources said.
While the land restoration project was initially launched in 2023, a detailed action plan for the project was launched recently. The project, pegged at Rs 16,053 crore, aims to create a buffer zone of 5 km around the mountain range, covering 6.45 million hectares.
Union Environment Minister Bhupender Yadav also reaffirmed for protecting the planet and promote sustainable solutions to protect the nature.
“As we mark #EnvironmentDay today, let’s reaffirm our commitment to protecting our planet and ensuring sustainability for all living beings. Always remembers nature protects when protected” he wrote on tweet.
Minister of State for Environment, Kirti Vardhan Singh called upon the future generation to “live in harmony with nature” for safer earth.
