Arunachal Pradesh launches “Biodiversity Action Plan” to boost’ conservation

Itanagar: Chief Minister Pema Khandu released the “Arunachal Pradesh State Biodiversity Strategy and Action also know as “A Peoples Plan” in Itanagar. It aims to fulfil the Pakke Declaration and achieve the National Biodiversity Targets.

The State Biodiversity Action Plan provides clear, localized action points that would empower communities, districts, and indigenous groups to take charge of their environment with the support of the government.

Speaking on the occasion, Khandu said that the plan complements the Pakke Declaration, a climate action plan adopted by the Arunachal Pradesh government, and its five themes — environment, climate resilience, well-being, sustainable livelihoods, and collaborative action.

He said it will also contribute significantly to India’s Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), ensuring that the state remains at the forefront of conservation efforts.

The Chief Minister informed that a cell will be established in the Chief Minister’s Office to monitor implementation of schemes and projects announced in the state Budget 2025-26, which would also monitor implementation of the state Biodiversity Plan.

The Pakke Declaration is also called the “Pakke Tiger Reserve 2047 Declaration on Climate Change Resilient and Responsive Arunachal Pradesh”.

The declaration focuses on low emission and climate resilient development. It is the first of its kind by any state government in India.

There are five main themes of Pakke Declaration. They are also called “Panch Dharas”. They are as follows: Environment, Forest and Climate Change, Health and Well-being for all, Sustainable and Adaptive living Livelihoods and opportunities, Evidence generation and collaborative actions
