Energy transition and sustainability have become central to global policy discourse: PM Modi

New Delhi: Prime Minister Narendra Modi reiterated that India is committed towards creating a greener planet and emphasized that energy transition and sustainability have become central to global policy discourse.

In his video message during the inauguration session on the third edition of the  International Conference on Green Hydrogen here,  PM Modi said “The impact of climate change is being felt here and now! The time for action is also here and now”.

Highlighting that India is committed to creating a cleaner and greener planet, PM Modi noted that the country is the first among G20 nations to fulfill its Paris commitments on green energy. He mentioned that these commitments were met nine years ahead of the 2030 target.

Underlining that climate change and energy transitions are global concerns, PM Modi said ,”India is committed towards creating cleaner and greener planet. We were the first among the G20 nations to fulfil our Paris commitments on green energy”.

“These commitments were fulfilled 9 years ahead of the target of 2030.India’s installed non-fossil fuel capacity increased by nearly 300% in the last 10 years” he further added.

Underscoring that the government wants to make India a “global hub” for the production, utilization and export of green hydrogen, the Prime Minister said, “The National Green Hydrogen Mission is giving an impetus to innovation, infrastructure, industry and investment”.

“Refineries, fertilisers, steel, and heavy duty transportation, many such sectors will benefit from green hydrogen… adding  the country is investing in cutting-edge research and development and partnerships between industry and academia are being formed”.

PM Modi noted, ” Green hydrogen is emerging as a promising addition to the world’s energy landscape.It can help in decarbonising industries that are difficult to electrify”.

Speaking at the inauguration session, Pralhad Joshi said, “India is moving with a mission to become one of the key global players in the Green Hydrogen market”. He added that India has made a big foray into the green Hydrogen sector.

Highlighted that the National Green Hydrogen Mission is funding green hydrogen testing facilities and infrastructure, the Minister said,” “Several states are backing green hydrogen initiatives, such as hydrogen hubs, with expectations for further growth.”

He emphasised the profitability of investing in India’s hydrogen sector and the steady progress in leveraging low cost wind and solar energy for green hydrogen production.

Earlier, the Minister for New and Renewable Energy Pralhad Joshi inaugurated the exhibition at the International Conference on Green Hydrogen, along with Minister of Petroleum and Natural Gas Hardeep Singh Puri. 

There are over 120 exhibitors from around the world, showcasing technical advancements and opportunities in the Green Hydrogen sector. 

The three day conference from (September 11-13) aimed, towards making India a global hub for the production of Green Hydrogen and its derivatives.

It will bring leaders, policymakers, industry experts, and innovators from around the world to explore the latest advancements in Green Hydrogen technology.
