Maximum temperature to rise 2-3°C most parts of country: IMD warns

New Delhi: The maximum temperature is likely to rise gradually by 2-3°C over many parts of the country during the week including Central and East India, said the India Meteorological Department( IMD).

IMD said due to sub-dued rainfall activities over northwest and central India, the maximum temperature will gradually rise during the week.

Heatwave conditions are also very likely in isolated pockets over West Madhya Pradesh, North Interior Karnataka and Vidarbha on 29th & 30th March 2024.

The agency forecast, a warm night likely to prevail in isolated pockets over Gujarat, Marathawada and Madhya Maharashtra during 1st half of the week.

Hot and humid weather is also likely to prevail over isolated pockets of Maharashtra & Karnataka Coast, Tamilnadu and Andhra Pradesh during some days of the week.

On Thursday, the maximum temperatures were in the range of 40-42°C at some places over West Madhya Pradesh, Vidarbha, Gujarat Region, Marathawada, Madhya Maharashtra and West Rajasthan.

The highest maximum temperature of 42.8°C was recorded at Akola (Vidarbha) on 27th March and the lowest minimum temperature of 12.2°C was recorded at Rewa (East Madhya Pradesh) on 22nd March.

Meanwhile, March 27 (Wednesday) marked the hottest day of the year so far in the national capital, with temperatures reaching 37 degrees Celsius, four degrees higher than the seasonal average.

The weather office has forecast cloudy skies with light rain and drizzle for the next three days, with maximum and minimum temperatures likely to settle at 37 and 20 degrees Celsius respectively.
