Cylonic storm “Tej” intensifies into severe cyclonic storm, to cross Yemen-Oman coasts on 25 Oct : IMD

New Delhi: The India Meteorological Department (IMD) said Cyclonic Storm “Tej” intensified into a Severe Cyclonic Storm
over southwest Arabian Sea, and will cross Yemen-Oman coasts on 25 Oct with a wind speed of up to 110 kmph.

In its weather bulletin, IMD said, “It is very likely to intensify further into a very severe cyclonic storm during next 24
hours”.

It is very likely to move west-northwestwards till 22nd morning, northwestwards thereafter till 24th morning & then north-northwestwards.

The storm is likely to cross Yemen-Oman coasts between Al Ghaidah (Yemen) & Salalah (Oman) around early morning of 25th October.

This would be the second cyclonic storm in the Arabian Sea this year. It will be called ‘Tej’, according to a formula followed for naming cyclones in the Indian Ocean Region.

Gale wind speed reaching 85-95 kmph gusting to 105 kmph is prevailing and likely to increase gradually becoming 90-100 kmph gusting to 110 kmph by evening of today and 110-120 kmph gusting to 135 kmph by morning of 22nd October

The Agency said rough to very rough sea condition is prevailing and likely to become “very rough” to phenomenal from 21st to 23rd October. The weather agency also warned the fishermen to not venture into the sea till 23 October

Meanwhile, in the Bay of Bengal a Low Pressure Area has formed over southwest and adjoining areas, which will intensify into a depression over westcentral Bay of Bengal around 22nd October.

Coastal Districts of Odisha and West Bengal likely to recieve moderate rainfall at a few places, on 24th and 25th October.

A cyclonic storm is characterised by a maximum sustained wind speed of 62-88 kmph, while it is termed a severe cyclonic storm if the maximum sustained wind speed reaches 89-117 km per hour.
