India is working in mission mode to decarbonise economy: PM Modi

New Delhi: India is working in “mission mode” Green Hydrogen as an alternative fuel to decarbonize the economy, said the Prime Minister Modi on Saturday.

Addressing the G20 Energy Ministers’ meet which is underway in Goa, The Prime Minsiter said, “The aim is to make India a Global Hub for the production, use, and export of Green Hydrogen and its derivatives”.

Prime Minister said, “We are moving strongly on our climate commitments and shown leadership in climate action.

“We achieved our non-fossil installed electric capacity target nine years in advance. We have now set a higher target. We plan to achieve 50 percent non-fossil installed capacity by 2030” he added.

Sharing the example of Pavagada Solar Park and Modhera Solar Village, Mr Modi said, “India is making great efforts in green growth and energy transition and it is among the global leaders in solar and wind power.

“I am happy that the Working Group delegates visited the They have witnessed the level and scale of India’s commitment to clean energy” he said.

Talking about the scheme towards clean energy transition, he said, “The world looks up to this group to advance sustainable, just, affordable, inclusive, and clean energy transition.

“While doing this, it is important that our brothers and sisters in the Global South are not left behind. We must ensure low-cost finance for developing countries” he said.

He added that,”We must find ways to bridge technology gaps, promote energy security, and work on diversifying supply chains adding …we must strengthen collaboration on the ‘fuels for the future’. The ‘High-level Principles on Hydrogen’ are a step in the right direction. Trans-national grid interconnections can enhance energy security”.

Mr Modi said, “It will enable all of us to meet our climate goals, stimulate green investment, and create millions of green jobs. I invite you all to join the Green Grids Initiative – ”One Sun, One World, One Grid of the International Solar Alliance”.

Addressing the Ministerial, the Union Minister for Power and New & Renewable Energy RK Singh said “Climate change is a concern for all and each one should play a positive role to combat it.

He said India’s per capita carbon emissions is around 2.29 tons while the world per capita average is around 6.3 tons… adding thet It is the simple lifestyle of the people of our nation which is the reason for low per capita emissions.

” India has focused on cutting down fossil fuel consumption and increasing renewable energy generation. We have set targets to meet 50% of our energy requirements from non-fossil sources by the year 2030. India will achieve more than its target of generating 500 GW renewable energy by 2030.” he said.
