Barriers are not good if one wants to achieve a global Net Zero: R K Singh

New Delhi: Union Power Minister RK Singh on Wednesday said India is one of the lowest carbon emitters in the world and it has emerged as a world leader in energy transition.

Inaugurating the first international conference on Green Hydrogen here, RK Singh said India had aimed at reducing the emissions intensity of its GDP by 30 percent by 2030, which has been achieved nine years in advance.
” India has also achieved its COP21 pledge related to the Nationally Determined Contribution nine years in advance” he added.

The Minister said the government is running programmes including the Ujala scheme related to LED bulbs which are the world’s leading initiatives in carbon emission reduction.

Stressing upon India’s achievements in the green Hydrogen sector the Minister green hydrogen is going to be the future fuel in India and the urging industry from across the world to be part of India’s National Green Hydrogen Mission.

The Minister also said the world should practice free trade and not indulge in protectionist measures.
“The barriers are not good if one wants to achieve a global Net Zero in time” he added.

In January 2023, the Centre approved the National Green Hydrogen Mission with an outlay of Rs 19,744 crore with an aim to make India a global hub for manufacturing green hydrogen.

The mission seeks to promote development of a production capacity of at least 5 MMT (Million Metric Tonne) per annum with an associated renewable energy capacity addition of about 125 GW in the country by 2030.

The three-day conference is aimed at brainstorming and working out a mechanism to establish a Green Hydrogen ecosystem and foster a systemic approach for meeting the global goals for decarbonization through Green Hydrogen.

Talking about the Renewable energy, he said India is the biggest market outside China in the renewable energy space. “If you are dealing in the energy sector, come partner with us for a swift global energy transition” he said.
