Delhi Government starts spraying bio-decomposer on agri- field to avoid stubble burning

New Delhi: In a fight against stubble burning and to control the air pollution in the national capital, the Delhi government has started spraying the bio-decomposer on agricultural fields across Delhi.

“Delhi Government has aimed to spray the bio-decomposer over 5000 acres of agricultural land this year. We have formed 21 teams to undertake the task of spraying bio-decomposer” said the Delhi Environments Minister Gopal Rai.

The government will spray bio-decomposer free-of-cost on all Basmati as well as non-Basmati agricultural fields.

The farmers have already filled the form expressing their interest to spray bio-decomposer on their agricultural field.

To tighten the noose on pollution, the government has also prepared a 15 point winter Action Plan which includes tackling the issue of stubble burning, one of the biggest factors in the increase in pollution during winters in Delhi.

“This year, we are taking action in a timely manner before the situation deteriorates. Earlier, the farmers faced a time-crunch between harvesting paddy and sowing wheat. The Government came into action in a time-bound manner so that there is no delay in farmer’s schedules and they can get better results as well” he said.

So far, 957 farmers have filled the form to get their fields sprayed with bio-decomposer free-of-cost. This year, PUSA institute has provided the bio-decomposer in liquid form to the Delhi Government.

The PUSA has also prepared a bio-decomposer in powder form and the government has decided to use it on 1000 acres of agricultural fields on a trial basis.

Keeping in mind the rise of pollution in Delhi during Diwali, the Government has also scheduled a high-level meeting with senior officials in the Delhi Secretariat on Wednesday.

“In the meeting, we will prepare a Plan of Action to tighten the noose on pollution during Diwali. We are working on war-footing to successfully run our campaign against pollution, “he said.
