GTBH begins third plantation drive to mark Harela festival

New Delhi: To give impetus to the tree plantation campaign in the national capital, Guru Teg Bahadur Hospital( GTBH) has started its third phase plantation drive with commitment to plant atleast 1,000 trees this year.

The plantation drive was inagurated by speaker of Delhi Legislative assembly Ram Niwas Goyal, in the presence of MLA and Rogi Kalyan Samiti chairperson Kuldeep Kumar to mark “HARELA” festival.

The tree plantation drive was done under the guidance of Medical Director GTBH, Dr Subhash Giri.

Talking about the plantaion drive at the hospital, Medical Director GTBH Dr Subhash Giri said that,” The reason why this day was choosen for organizing the drive is the begining of HARELA festival, which is celebrated accross India, especially in Utrakhand”.

Dr Giri further insisted that everyone should plant atleast one tree in his life.

While speaking at the event Ram Niwas Goyal highlighted the need to plant more and more trees to preserve the environment for the future generations.

Harela means ‘day of green’ and is celebrated in the month of Shravan (the fifth month of the Hindu lunar calendar) to worship Lord Shiva and Goddess Parvati.

People across Uttarakhand, especially the Kumaun region, associate greenery with prosperity.

Various trees including fruit bearing trees like mango, Gauva, mausami trees were planted during the programme, which will not only bear fruits in future but provide shade and will help in preserving the environment.

“The Plantation drive was further made sucessful with the involvement of local RWA, nursing union and RKS members who vowed to take care of planted saplings and plant more and more trees in the GTBH campus” it said.

Recently, Delhi governemnt has started the ‘Van Mahotsav’ a plantation drive, under which 10 lakh saplings will be planted all across the state.

The government has set a target to plant two crore saplings, under which 35 lakh saplings will be planted this year alone.
